Makeup Obsession
Fashion Alert: Cakey makeup is out, natural is in!
Say goodbye to heavy liquid foundations and hello to Bare Minerals all natural makeup. Bare Minerals has been around since 1976. The product really became popular in the 1990's. Bare Minerals is made from crushed minerals from the earth that can actually improve your skin overtime. When I first heard about Bare Minerals I was extremely skeptical. I was a huge fan of MAC foundation that basically looked like a mask when I applied it. I thought how can a powder with no artificial additives actually cover up my dark circles under my eyes, blemishes, or red spots. I was completely taken back when I ordered the start up kit and gave it a try. My skin looked natural and flawless. I would recommend purchasing the starter kit which gives you everything you need. It comes with two shades of foundation which comes in a variety of different colors. I use the lightest palette as I am very fair. Warmth is also Incorporated in the kit. This is a powder that gives you a nice bronze glow. You need very little of this product because you don't want to run the risk of looking too orange. It's not a bronzer. Then mineral veil which is a white powder that is used for all skin types. Don't worry is shows up sheer and just gives you a clean finish.
Now Bare Minerals has a different application process then regular makeup. Check out this video that gives you step by step instructions on how to Swirl, Tap, and Buff.
This is a before and after picture I found of Melissa. In the first picture her face is pale with unsightly redness. However, in the after picture the redness is gone and she has highlighted her face and retains a nice healthy glow, yet it looks so natural. It's Melissa's skin only better.
Bottom Line: Intense makeup can be fun, especially MAC. Heavy makeup worn on the right occasion can really make a statement. However, if worn on the wrong one or if you look like a clown you could be committing a serious fashion don't. The key is combining heavy makeup but still maintaining a natural look. I suggest using bare minerals foundation always and then if you want to play up your eyes or lips, go for it. What you want to avoid is being able to see the foundation on your face. FYI it isn't sexy to have orange looking gunk cover your face.
Until Next Time...Ciao Fashionistas

I use bare minerals too! I ordered the kit as well, but the colors on the lightest one were way too dark for me, so I ordered the lightest shade possible separately. I have the other two if you want them. What exactly is the function of the mineral veil, anyway? is it just to set the makeup?
I use fair and fairly light and mix them together, if those are what you have I would be thrilled to take them. Yes, mineral veil is just to set the foundation but it also gives a bit of a shine. You can also use mineral veil before you apply the foundation which is good for hot days.
I usually wear minimal makeup..just the slightest bit of foundation and a little bit of bronzer on my cheeks but this bare minerals sounds like something worth trying. I also liked the before and after pics. It gave me a really good image of what it looks like. Is it really pricey?
yeah those are what i have, I'll bring them tomorrow and show you my "wayfareres" lol. Hmm, I'll have to try putting the veil on before.
bianca, it's a little pricey but no more than you would pay for another quality item at sephora. you should get the kit at first because it's a really good price for everything, then later buy the foundation and mineral veil separately when you run out of them (buying them separately gives you bigger portions). this way, you'll have all of the brushes already and you'll probably never run out of warmth. I recommend buying the kit from amazon.com because it is cheaper than sephora (even with shipping), and the bare minerals website automatically puts you on a monthly supply list or something, which you can cancel but why?
here's my critique of the product-
- it does take longer to put on in the morning, set aside extra time
- I find you have to put on a base layer twice in order for you to get any coverage out of it
- the makeup doesn't come off as easily as regular (i mean this as a good thing)
- I wish they came up with a travel foundation and veil (perhaps one of those brushes with powder in the base)because when I get a little shiny during the day, I have to blot with regular powder which ruins the natural look of BM. If you take your BM with you it's a hassle to put on during the day and we all know what taking loose powder out of the house is like
- watch the dvd when you get the kit (it comes with it) many people don't like BM because they aren't applying it correctly. you actually have to buff it into your skin and even applying it to the brush is different
ok, well sorry I wrote a book on your comments! see you all tomorrow!
No thanks for the information I really appreciate it, and thanks for the amazon.com mention!
I have been using bare minerals for years, I love it! I have to mix fair and fairly light together too bc fairly light tends to look a little orange on me since i have really pale skin. Great blog!
I love this stuff!
I'm a medium beige girl, though in the summer when I get a tan, I'm right in between tan and medium beige, so I end up mixing those two. Their bronzers are great.
This stuff cuts my daily morning routine in half cause it's so quick and easy to use. Unless you're using the wrong color, it's hard to 'mess up'.
Your best bet if you're debating on getting Bare Minerals, is to stop by Sephora and ask them what color they think you are. I was already using the color I picked out for myself for a few years now, and I went there to see how knowledgeable they are, and they picked my color exactly.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Honestly, I don't think it takes longer to apply bare minearls if anything it's faster because you don't have to be bothered covering your face with liquid foundation. Even if it did take longer it's well worth it, because it honestly just blends right into your skin.
I buy my products off the bareminerals website. However, it seems that if you want to try out the colors you can do this at Sephora.
